ESOP is an empowerment exchange program for migrants in Italy and interns from various EU countries providing the necessary platform to support and manage mutual dialogue for an appreciative living together.

The program units on one hand focus on Italian and German language classes, introduction to IT, civic education, legal trainings and preparation for the labour market in Europe. On the other hand, through seminars and trainings, the European interns receive an important formation in intercultural communication strategies.

The program is not only implemented on a national level enhancing exchange with the local population, but follows an European approach based on the principles of solidarity and freedom of mobility.

European Citizenship Education for New Europeans

The European Union is in need of new European Citizens not least to satisfy the needs of its labour markets. At the same time, people fleeing war, persecution and poverty keep arriving at the shores of the European Union. Most of them stay and, by doing so, become part of the group of New Europeans.
Coming from completely different cultural and historical contexts, sometimes combined with an individual low educational background, most of them have only a rudimentary knowledge of the European Union: the European idea, its history and mechanisms and the opportunities it offers to its (active) citizens are unknown to most recently arrived migrants.
Additionally, many migrants in the EU- mostly those residing in the EU’s southern member states- tend to be rather confronted with the limitations that the European framework (keyword: Dublin Regulation, sanctioning of secondary movements) has on their lives.

Currently European Citizenship Education (ECE) for this target group is not done sufficiently or is done with inappropriate material and methods which do not lead to the desired results.

Therefore, migration_miteinander together with its European partners decided to launch the project ECENE (platform for European Citizenship Education for New Europeans) in order to realize the following objectives:

  • collecting of well-founded data on the target group’s knowledge of the EU and its attitude towards it
  • production of high quality material on ECE for New Europeans to be accessible for concerned actors and to be constantly developed and updated
  • enhanced professional exchange between concerned actors Europe-wide and the construction of a European network

TAMA TAMAN

”TAMA TAMAN” in the language of the Mandinka ethnic in West Africa means ”to go on a journey together”.

And that is what the project is about: To go on a journey together with young people with and without refugee background so that they get to know each other, live together for nearly two weeks and teach each other more about their own culture, religion and personal traditions. They go on a new and intercultural journey together.

The TAMA TAMAN project is an intercultural exchange which brings young people from different countries like Italy, Germany and others together to share stories and take part in different seminars and workshops which are mainly about identity, home, critical whiteness and racism. They learn and experience how art can connect all the special parts in each of us and how it can be an expression of identity.

Young Voices

Young Voices is a project realized in collaboration with the Associazione Interculturale Universo, Bandiera Gialla, Associazione Dry Art, Associazione Dry-Art, AISEC, flashgiovani and Associazione mosaico di solidarietà.
A first cycle was implemented from January to July 2018 with a group of 15 young people between 16 and 21 years coming from 6 different countries.
The objective of Young Voices is to bring together young people from different cultural and social contexts as well as to train them on gender issues and in the use of different media instruments such as video and radio.

In the different workshops, the participants confront themselves with how gender issues in Italy and in their countries of origin are tackled and got sensitized for the topic.

They learn to express their opinion and to document it in written articles, videos and podcasts.

Among others, migration_miteinander was responsible for the workshop “Let’s speak English” in which we supported the participants through different interactive activities to express themselves in a foreign language. Furthermore, we promoted the dissemination of a questionnaire on gender issues and gender violence to the citizens of Bologna to increase awareness for the importance of the topic.
